Lotus Domino 6.5 to 7 Administrator Update
Lotus Training Overview

This course explains the benefits of upgrading to Notes and Domino 7 and describes how to plan for and upgrade an existing installation to Domino 7. You will learn the proper sequence to install the software and update the databases to avoid problems and service disruptions.

This course thoroughly explores the many new features that make it easier to monitor and control Domino servers and Notes clients.

Lotus Training Learning Objectives

After you complete this course, you will be able to

  • List the proper sequence of steps to install and configure Domino 7 over an existing installation and how to immediately take advantage of the Domino 7 performance gains.
  • List the platforms initially supported by Domino 7 and those that will be supported in point releases.
  • Explain how Domino 7 utilizes DB2 as a second database engine.
  • Describe how the usability and performance of Domino Web Access have been vastly improved.
  • Upgrade users to Notes 7 using the improved Smart Upgrade feature.
  • Control Mail preferences using policies and lock down most Notes settings to prevent them from being changed by users.
  • Configure Domino 7 to use a private blacklist as well as both public and private whitelists and understand how Notes mail rules can act on messages coming from blacklist or whitelist domains.
  • Configure Domino to insert message disclaimers into outbound Internet messages.
  • Archive mail using the improved user interface.
  • Explain how the new Rooms and Resources Manager server task all but eliminates resource overbooking.
  • Describe the new ways in which room and resource reservations are made and how to give resource owners more control over their assets.
  • Configure the nine types of probes that are included with the new Domino Domain Monitoring feature and learn how to use the reports to understand why a particular problem occurred and how you can solve the problem.
  • Quickly implement the new capabilities of Server Recovery and Diagnostic Collection to better react to crashed systems.
  • Describe how the addition of three new Event Handler actions and the improvement of an existing action give you greater power to automatically reconfigure Domino in response to events.
Note: This course only touches on Domino’s ability to use DB2 as its data store, Domino Access Views, and Query Views. Take DB2 for Domino 7 Administrators and Developers course for detailed instruction on these topics.

Lotus Training Audience

This course is designed for experienced Notes and Domino 6.5 administrators who plan to upgrade their environment to Notes and Domino 7.

You will find the course especially rewarding if you have already installed a Domino 7 server and a handful of Notes 7 clients and bring your questions to class.

To learn more about:

  • upgrading applications to run under Domino 7 using Domino Designer 7, take the Domino 6.5 to 7 Developer Update course
  • upgrading to Notes 7 (users), take the Lotus Notes 6.5 to 7 User Update course.
If you missed the Notes/Domino 5 to 6.x upgrade, we have these courses to prepare you for the Notes/Domino 6.5 to 7 upgrade courses:
  • Lotus Domino 6.5 Developer Update
  • Lotus Domino 6.5 Administrator Update
  • Update to Notes 6.5

If you are new to Notes and Domino 7, this is not the right course for you to take, as it assumes significant prior knowledge of Notes and Domino 6.5. You should, instead, participate in a series of Domino administration training courses. Follow these paths to master all aspects of the Domino 7 server, Domino Administrator 7, and the administration of Lotus Notes 7 clients:

Courses later in the series assume that you have mastered the content of earlier courses.

Lotus Training Course duration

This course is designed as a half-day seminar/lecture and demonstration course, but can be lengthened and modified to include hands-on activities.
