3ds max 4 : Modeling
Discreet Courses Overview

3ds max 4: Modeling is a hands-on instruction book that will introduce you to the features and techniques of modeling with 3ds max.

Prerequisites

The student should have completed the 3ds max 4: Introduction course or have equivalent knowledge. A working knowledge of Windows 98/2000 is also important. Experience using a computer drawing program is also beneficial, though not required. Before taking this course, you should have a basic understanding of your computer’s operating system. For example, you should know how launch an application, create and save files, and copy files from CDs and other media.

Delivery Method:

Instructor-led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities.

Hardware/Software Requirements

You will need:

  • An Intel-compatible processor, running at 300 MHz or better.
  • A graphics card that supports at least 1024 x 768 resolution at High Color (1280 x 1024 at True Color recommended).
  • Windows 98 or Windows 2000.
  • At least 128 Megabytes (MB) of Random Access Memory (RAM) (256 MB recommended).
  • At least 400 MB of free hard-disk space.
  • At least 300 MB of Windows swap file space.
  • A mouse or compatible tracking device.
  • A CD-ROM drive.
  • To view the online help, Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater.
Performance-Based Objectives

Lesson objectives help students become comfortable with the course, and also provide a means to evaluate learning. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Convert primitives and shapes to different modeling types.
  • Create 3D objects using splines and modifiers.
  • Create models using polygonal modeling techniques.
  • Use compound object features to build 3D objects.
  • Create models using patch modeling techniques.
  • Form and edit NURBS surfaces.
